Fall Trends and Seasonal Colors
The weather is cooling down and, slowly but surely, fall is upon us. With that comes my favorite season of the year. Sport coat season! Fashion nerds always love fall and winter because of the wide variety of fabrics that can be worn. You can wear anything from a traditional worsted wool suit, all the way to rustic flannel. You can layer and accessorize your outfit to make it even more unique and distinctive. If you live in a cold climate, matching topcoats with your suits and sports coats is even more fun. The cool weather presents many opportunities to put your best fashion foot forward. Let’s take a look at what’s in style this season.
Earth Tones
As the leaves change colors, so to do the colors of the season. The change from summer to fall moves the color spectrum from pastels and lighter colors to darker earth tones and jewels tones. Earth tones are really making a strong comeback. Grey and blue suits are always in style but for that dandy that wants to stand out, earth tones are the way to go. One of our colleagues from Brothers Tailors just came back from a 2-week trip in Italy and was amazed to see how prevalent brown was in suiting and sport jacketing. Brown is so versatile because it pairs well with navy and denim. Brown shoes tend to be a go-to in any gentleman’s closet. For these reasons, brown is a crucial color to add to your wardrobe this season!
Jewel Tones
Along with earth tones, jewels tones are very popular this season. Colors like plum, teal, dark green, oxblood, burgundy, rust and mustard are all very IN right now. All of these colors translate to precious stones found deep within our earth. Consider what a sapphire looks like; a deep royal blue stone that reminds us of the rock Rose had when the Titanic sank. We have seen celebrities wearing that royal blue suit that has lasted a couple of seasons. Think of what a ruby looks like; it is the birthstone for the month of July. Its color can be described as a deep burgundy. We’ve all seen the guys on Instagram blowing up your newsfeed in a burgundy suit. Then think of what an emerald looks like. The emerald stone is a deep dark forest green color. Cutting edge suit designers are using this rich green color more frequently. Connor McGregor wore a green mink coat in the lead up to his premiere fight with Floyd Mayweather. He also wore a forest green suit to another event that went viral online. Mustard and rust have also been hot colors. These can either be the dominant color or the accent colors to a traditional design. One of the favorite Brothers Tailors looks is matching these jewel tone jackets with shoes in the same color scheme. Imagine a forest colored jacket with a clean white shirt, jeans, and green loafers. Can you say fresh?
At Brothers Tailors, we make garments that are on the cutting edge of societal evolution. We aim to make garments that are ahead of the curve when it comes to fashion, construction and design. When you add a quality piece to your wardrobe you can expect it to last for about a decade or two. That’s why it’s imperative to always look through the windshield of fashion rather then the rearview mirror.
